"Because...I need you...isn't that reason enough? Please just don't go" My eyes burned with the hidden tears.

she closed her eyes, her head tilting down towards the ground as tears slid down her cheeks.
"Jake....Even my family doesn't need me...Why would you need me..?"

"Because...I care about you...a lot Am...I don't want you to go." I tightened my grip on you.

"....."
She didn't say any more. She leaned her head against his chest and let her resistance on her tears fade away. She huddled close to him, crying silently against him.

"I won't let you go...I need you...even if you don't think I do" I say softly.

"I..."
She calmed herself, but didn't look up just yet.
"I'll stay..."
She finally agreed.

"Thank you..." I smiled slightly. I kiss the top of your head softly.

She slowly relaxed against him, tilting her head up to look at him.
"You're welcome.."

I push your hair off of your face. "No problem."

She gently reached a hand up to wipe her eyes.
"I guess...i'll stay in a hotel or something.."

"No, you'll stay with me." I said firmly.

"I don't wanna cause any trouble for you or Billy..."
She sighed.

"Don't worry about him, he won't mind." I smile at her as kindly as possible.

She blinked, not used to this kind of generousity before.
"I..."
She finally cracked and smiled back gratefully.
"Alright..Thank you, Jake.."

I grab your hand without another word and take you down stairs.

She froze at the front door, letting her hand slip out of Jacob's grip.
"I...I don't wanna go out there...Everyone in the whole neighbourhood only see my dads burnt body and my mom and sister running for the hills while i'm just fine...What if they--"
She cut herself off, too frightened to think about what they would do if they thought she was the killer.

I stare out the door for a moment, then I turn back towards you. "Just wait here for a sec." I walk out the door.

She blinked but did as he said and waited. She looked at all the family pictures on the wall, now with broken frames and torn photographs from the fight. She traced one of her mother and herself with her fingertips, feeling another warm tear trickle down her cheek.

I walk back into the house. "Alright, sorry it took so long. I just had to convince Leah to go and take care of your family. But at least they'll be safe."

She quickly stuffed the photo in her pocket and nodded.
"Thanks Jake...I really appreciate this..."

I pick you swiftly and take you out the back door.

She instinctively locked her arms around his neck so she wouldnt fall and looked up at the night sky.
Wow...Being a teenager is a lot harder than it looks...

I jog at a steady pace toward my house. I didn't even know how to being speaking to Amber so I just stayed silent.

On the way there, she dropped her head back down again and, almost without noticing it, nuzzled her head into Jacob's chest.

I felt my face flush when I felt her against my chest.
